A question for Factory Tech
A question for Factory Tech
Hi. Iwas reading the post about tranny mods and valves? I have a 97 4.6 2wd auto. On the tail shaft it says 7AO40W and a big W1. Ser # Trans code u? So what tranny is this anyway? I have super chips installed. K&N intercharger filter, accell wires, and coils with Bouch 4's for the spark. Tried installing a shift kit b&m'S wired into the PCM and all it does when I hit the button is make the motor shake and miss. Do you think installing that valve you all been talking about would achiieve what I'm looking for which is stiffer shifts the chirping of the tires. Thanks Jim

The transgo kit for the 4R70 works pretty well, I dislike Level 10, but that's a personal thing, there service is less than great and they charge too much for my taste. I had a Transgo in an old Thunderbird, it worked okay.
I don't right now have any plans to build anything for the 4R70, the layout of the wormtrail makes it harder to build something user friendly, any shift kit for them involves taking off the entire "top" and I just don't feel comfortable with having to be responsible for what could go wrong. the neat thing about the Factory Tech unit for 4R100s is it's just a simple swap, you barely need instructions for it, it's so easy.
Hope this helps,
G

Is there any surefire way to tell the difference in the 4R70W and the AODE? My 97 has a door jamb date of 1/96 and the engine has a sticker dated 11-3-95. I always assumed it came with the 4R70W but with this old of a combination I am wondering if it's really a AODE. I have the usual code "u" on the door sticker but that doesn't mean much. Pan is stamped with the word "metric" on it and that the gasket is reuseable. Any #'s or distingishable things I can look at to check?
