Under normal driving conditions I shift at about 2k, when I am getting on a highway or passing I shift at 3k-3.5k. When I want to chirp the hell out of second and make her scream I shift at 4.5k, that’s as high as I will go.

It seems to make the most power between 3 and 4 thousand.

I have impressed many people with the 1st to 2nd gear chirp. I don’t do it often though because I can imagine it’s not good for anything. 95 percent of the time I baby it.

i usally go at 2500 to 3000, thats what it feels like since i dont have a tach but i used that dig tach for a while to see what the rpms felt like and where it translated to mph. that 1-2 shift making the tires chirp is what my freinds like. they all stare in amaziment(sp) that a v6 can do that

Hmmm. Damn I guess I'm the odd one out in here! I usually shift at abour 3000 around town. When I get on it it's spin to 5700 Rpm, second, spin some, 5700, third, chirp, 5700, fourth, tiny chirp, 5700, fifth, take it to bout 5500 in 5th is as fast as it's been lately. I really shifted the power band with the gears and the cam. the truck really doesn't like it when I shift low, not because it lacks torque-it has plenty with gearing, it just like hearing itself scream, psycho motor I guess

SQZDONY,
I noticed that you are running a 4.10 rear end. I've debated about putting a 4.10 set in my 5-speed 4.6 Lariat; I did some figuring, though, and realized that, with the lower overdrive ratio in the 5-speed, I'd be turning about 2700 at 70 mph. Is that about what you're turning? My automatic truck turned 2000 @ 70, and the 5-speed, both with 3.55's, turns 2400 @ 70. Did you notice a big mileage loss? And, with the already low first gear, do you even use it anymore with 4.10's? I'd imagine that second would pull it away from a stop easy with those gears. I just wanted to hear someone's thoughts on 4.10's in 5-speeds before I jumped in and did something I'd regret. Thanks for the info.
