Compatability

Hey how's everyone doing? OK so I have a question that i trust to get an honest answer from people here more than anywhere else. I am gonna pick up a used transmission and I have a choice of two a 2001 f 150 5.4 4wd 4r70w Trans or a 2001 expedition 5.4 4wd transmission the 5.4 f150 is automatic with shift on the floor 4wd not sure about the expedition. But I need to know which will go with my truck it's a 2001 f 150 extended cab 4.6 4wd . If neither of those will be a direct fit is there a Trans that will work besides another 4.6 3wd cause I'm having a hard time finding a 4.6. I also have been told that the tc has to be for that exact Trans that I can't use the 4.6 tc for the 5.4 due to stall speed. Is this all correct. Any and all advice always greatly appreciated and have a great day.

The one out of the F150 is a direct swap, doesn't matter if it's out of a 4.6 or 5.4 as long as it's a 4R70W and not a 4R100. If the Expy is a 4R70W that should also work. With the miles you have, I'd recommend a rebuilt TC. Contact this company, he's a forum member and very reputable:

You could flush yours out thoroughly, but I'd rather have a replacement. It's always best to replace the TC when replacing the trans.
