Forward clutch plate cracked ???

2001 f150 4x4 automatic 4.6 v8 306700 miles no check engine lights and did have some hesitation upon taking odf from a stop but now is running beautiful again. But still Took my truck into a Trans shop and they tell me I have a cracked forward clutch plate , isn't this internal transmission part?? And if it is how would the mechanic know it's cracked without dropping the Trans and checking it. I had codes 1832, 1824, and 1783 which have all gone away which is strange cause I've only done a few things to take care of driveability issues nothing to the Trans. Now I'm stumped and need to know if this guys just trying to take advantage cause I'm a woman .

Is it still slipping or is it working properly? If it's working properly I wouldn't worry about it until something happens. At 306k it's only a matter of time before you will need a transmission rebuild anyway. You did change the fluid, right?

It's not slipping anymore for some reason. And I planned on changing the fluid and filter this weekend. I've been playing catch up with this baby now for over a year. I've replaced quite a few parts that were neglected by previous owner. I believe in maintenence not waiting till its broken to deal with things. Thanks for your response and questions.
