2004 F150 transmission compatibility

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if a 2000 tranny would work in my 2004 4x2 F150. Both transmissions are the same model number 4R70W. But from what I gather it looks like that they might not be completely compatible without some re wiring. If anyone could give me a clue that would be awesome.

This thread covers the issues you will have:

It will physically install as long as the 2000 tranny is out of a 4x2 F150 or van, assuming both are V8's or V6's. A V6 transmission won't fit in a V8, and vice versa, different bellhousing patterns.

I saw that, and that's what gave me pause. Stupid truck goes forward but no reverse. Found a cheap tranny my friend can install but after reading that post I'm afraid to buy a cheap used tranny.

If you buy a used transmission, you are buying someone else's wear & tear. Somebody else has driven it for XXX,XXX miles. It's probably ready to fail once you install it. Think along the lines of remanufactured with a warranty.

I wouldn't bother with a used transmission unless I was immediately selling the truck.

If I planned on keeping it, I would invest in a reman tranny or get mine rebuilt, with a warranty.

Is the truck the Heritage version or the "New style" 04?

Let me know if I can help with anything.

Darrin, we are having the problem of no where to plug in second speed sensor and you said that can be corrected with a tuner. Can you tell me more please?

No, that cannot be corrected with a tuner. The tuner only corrects for the different number of teeth on the tailshaft. You need a 2004 or newer transmission that has both sensors.
