Replace the OD button?

I have a simple question.... seemingly SO simple no one ANYWHERE on the internet appears to have answered it, ever. I cannot find the answer on any page I’ve looked at, and no YT video I’ve watched shows how to do this oh-so-simple (I hope) thing. 😞

My question is this: on a gen10 (1997-2003) F150, how do you remove the OD switch/button from the end of the auto transmission shift lever and install a new one?

Replace the whole shift lever, it isn't broken down into individual parts that can be purchased separately.

Aftermarket:
Amazon Amazon

OEM:
Amazon Amazon

And yet, I did buy just an OD switch and end cap from RockAuto, rather than an entire shift lever....

The switch just pulls out with some needle nose pliers.
