Question 97 F150 tranny/electrical problem

This morning driving the kid to school, the transmission would not shift out of first gear. I could manually shift it to second but that was it. I tried turning OD off and nothing changed. After getting her to school driving only 35mph, a horrible grinding noise started. I immediately shifted to park and turned off the truck. I then turned the key to the run position and the truck started up. So I'm assuming a stuck starter was the problem. So I continued driving again, then random lights stopped popping up and then turning off on my dash. I then stopped again and turned off the truck. I then tried to restart the engine and now it won't start or even turn over. I know this is a bit lengthy but wanted all the details out there. Where do I start?

Which engine? Any OBD2 codes? Check the GEM for water damage from a windshield leak. It's on the back of the fuse box.

It has the 5.4L engine. I don't have a reader to check codes. But last night I replaced the starter and the solenoid that sits on the firewall by the battery. Now when I turn the key to the run position, the truck starts and the starter stays engaged.
