My suv has 168000 miles when I put it in drive it hesitates before engaging sometimes just a split second sometimes I have to put back in park and try again it will then engage it runs like a top otherwise did do full service on it 1 month ago please help me figure this out

 

Have you checked the fluid level?

 

Just had mechanic service the transmission I haven't checked it since

 

You need to check the fluid level. Do it with the engine and trans warmed up, engine running in Park. If it's low, add some. If not, or if adding doesn't take care of it, take it back to the mechanic.

 

I personally thought it might have something to do with the shifter or linkage?
Transmission seems strong
