Valve body replacement?

Sorry if this is a dumb question!

Do you have to remove the tranny pan to replace the valve body?

Thanks is advance!

This question stems from a long discussion on the Screw forum about a transmision "thunk" between 1st and 2nd

Max,

Wow I guess YOU are qualified then?

I know a lot about cars and trucks but I don't know everything (like you must) so I come to places like this to ask.

The dealer said that he replaced my valve body to fix the 1st to 2nd thunk problem, when I was under my truck the other day it looked like the tranny pan had never been touched. I have done a few tranny pan drops in my day but I have never done anything with a valve body, so before I went back to my dealer to question wether they did the work or not I wanted to do my home work.(again the reason for using a site like this)

So Max you know the whole story which I wanted to leave out so that I didn't make any one read so much.

I hope that you never have a question that needs to be answered in here and some one has such a big headed reply as yours.

Please keep your .02 it is not wanted here.

Thanks for listening

Your answer was very helpfull, Thank you.

Your comment about going some where else was un-called for.

With this behind us, I look forward to future discussions with you (and everyone else)in this forum to constantly further our knowledge of these great trucks and how they work!

Peace-

The big problem with dropping a main control (not the accumulator) is that you have to know which two bolts to leave in, or you'll seprate the valve bodies and 4 or 5 (model dependent) check ***** will fall out. take the bolts one at a time and any that are shorter than the rest on the upper stage, put back in, this will keep you from having a lot of headaches.

Generally, you do have to remove the trans oil pan to change the valve body. However, i have not seen an auto on one of the new F150's (5-speed owner), and would assume it is the same as every other auto tranny i have looked at.

Hmmm, I'm assuming there was a post we didn't get to see. Maybe "Max" was pruned from the thread.

FamilyRide-

I've never been "pruned". I deleted my posts because they were misinterpreted; we have that option here.

Oh, I didn't know it was "Max" as in Max Mitchell. I didn't see your post, just the response. I've never known you to post anything offensive, but interpretation is an individual sport so I'll stay out of it.
