Clunking sound

I have a 2010 F150, 5.4L. When I start off there is a "clunking" sound. In the old days I would say its the Universal Joint but with these newer trucks I'm not sure. Any help out there?

Most likely the slip yoke, a common problem. The drive shaft has to be removed and the yoke lubed. It usually lasts awhile and returns. Mine returned after 30,000 miles. I am not going to redo it as it really doesn't hurt anything, just annoys.

Hi rspeay,

I recommend having your dealer take a look at this for you. They'll be able to diagnose the clunk and get you on your way. Let me know how it goes!

Yes, I took it into the dealer last Friday and he agreed it was probably the yoke needed lubing, etc. It turns out there was a TSB on that and it was fixed free of charge. It now runs as smooth as new. Thanks for the help.
