2002 F150 Will not go into 4low

New here, never owned a big truck before.
Iv had multiple honda track cars and do my own car work.

Although 4x4high/low/2wd etc is new to me.

Anyways, the truck is a lifted 2002, F150, V6 4.2L, 200kms, Automatic, with the manual shifter for 2wd>4wd>N>4wd(low)

I can shift it from 2wd>4wd, but it will not go into N, or 4wd(low) (cant even move the shifter past 4wd)
(car is stopped, and brake is on.)

I searches up this issue on the Search button, seems as most people have this problem with the automatic switch.

Can someone guide me to a link, or what some issues may be? Only thing i found was shifter linkage could be old? needs some lube?

Thank you

sounds like the lever mechanism is corroded/seized. I ran into a similar issue on a 2000 F-150 from Canada. with the mechanism removed from the transmission, I soaked it Aero kroil and worked it back and forth. shifts like a dream now.

you might be able to soak it while still bolted on.

Penetrating oil to loosen it up. Just get under the truck and spray a liberal coating on the linkage and spring. Move lever through the pattern till it frees up.

EDIT: Are you moving the lever to the left after you shift it into 4Hi. Pattern is: straight back for 4Hi. Then push to left while pulling further back for N and keep pulling back for 4 Lo.

I have had customers complain about this and I would always put transmission in N before going to 4 low.

Glad its fixed. FYI on the manual shift you need not have the brakes applied. You need only to be travelling slower than 5mph.
