Need help on my trans

I have a 2001 f150 crew cab 5.4l 4x4. when you put it in reverse gear shifter is in neutral. But all gears work besides 1st. Im thinking shifting linkage needs adjusted how do i adjust and it acts like it has no 1st gear and o/d on off switch it out of gear shifter needs replaced. Guy said it has all new cylinoids in trans but I cant prove it. seems to take off it 2nd gear and shift into 3rd but no o/d becasue of switch. what would cause 1st gear not to work is there any easy fix to this?

Your shift cable is out of adjustment and/or the Torx screws in the column are loose.

If the plastic piece is broken, you need to replace it.

I Know i will have to drop the trans pan how crazy of a job is it on the f150. I run a powersports shop a machine shop. so Im mechanically inclined but just now getting into the newer vehicles with all the sensors and electrical.

There is a yellow/ tan plastic piece the shifter linkage attaches to on the side of the transmission. I don
t think you can turn it around. It has teeth on it to adjust the shifter.
