Lately I noticed my tranny doesn't start out in 1st gear when moving from a stop. ever since I noticed that I have been shifting manually and get better mileage because the engine doesn't lug as much when starting to move from a stop. Anybody ever heard of this or have a solution?

 

Hello King James, I really can't say whats wrong with your trans, but I did have an Olds with the same symptoms. In my case it turned out to be a faulty governor. Turns out it had a plastic gear on it that wore out and would'nt turn freely. Trans worked fine after replacement.
