help finding trans. accumulator piston

Hi, I have a 99 f150 auto 5.4 v8. The tranny doesn't shift right. I was told it could be the spring in the accu. piston. How do I get to the piston?

Clean the accumulator body out, take it out and clean well with parts cleaner or something strong. They can become contaminated. There's two types of pistons, - Metal and Aluminum. Personally, I'd install a shift kit. Geezz, I can't recall where I found pistons at.. I wanna say Jegs, but I'm not sure.

Knowing which transmission is in the truck will help tremendously, it could be a 4R70W or a 4R100.

what do you mean by the "transmission doesn't shift right?", Please explain.

If it's a 4R70W, the 1-2 accumulator piston is located in the forward driver's side area. You can get to it easily after removing the pan.

The tranny hesitates. I have to really press the accelerator to get it to shift.

I think it is a 4r70w, I will have to find out this week.
