tranny's scare me so I was wondering how hard is it to put a shift kit in? I was looking at the Trans-Go kit but dont know if I should pay to have it done or do it myself...

The one that I make is a simple swap of the Accumulator Valve body, drop the pan, pop off the filter and swap out the body, no drilling, springs, check ***** etc... takes about an hour and is slightly more invoilved than an oil change. No special tools, just a torque wrench. Sal at PSP sales@powersurgeperfomance.net sells them, he gets $200.

Hope this helps,

G

I too was a bit hesitant.
Don't be. It was not hard at all. I went with the Baumann & the documentation was easy to follow. Took me a few hrs but it is well worth it.
I think the transgo comes with a video.
Do it yourself. You'll get alot of satisfaction out of it.

JUST DO IT!!!! : )

Question Changes?

I am now thinking about a tranny kit. Probably the Baumann one. I am having problems with my tranny (see my other post on that.) Do you think it would help this? I am really leary of tearing down the tranny and messing something up. The whole drilling thing sounds a little un-nerving. I do most of my work myself and I like the sounds of ~$150 for the kit. What is involved? Drop the pan only? What else needs to come out? I have a Superchip. Will Mike Troyer need to make changes to it?

Thanks.

The PSP kit (mine) is a drop the pan only install, you pop off the filter and swap out the body, you know which one because you have the replacement in hand. You can do this yourself, My idea was just to make it convienient for those who don't feel comfortable with tearing into the box. I do a few more things than the LEvel 10 kit, but all of them are going the same direction.
Regardless of whose kit you buy, if you have any trouble, I'm happy to be a resource for you, just email me at GBEvans@peoplepc.com

Hope it helps,

G

I did the TransGo kit and on a scale of 1 to 10 I would say 4-5 as a dificulty level. There was a video in the kit so I took the VCR and a TV to the garage. I had never been past the filter in an auto tranny before so it was more intimidating than dificult. Had to drill a couple of holes in the valve body but, the drill bits were in the kit.

My scale 1-10, I would give it a 6, because of the pucker factor. As long as you follow the directions to the "T" you should be fine. BUT make sure the ground is clean, wherever you decide to do the install(preferably in a garage). Because during the installation of mine, one of the springs I was working with shot across the room. My heart hit the floor because it took me 20 mins (with a magnet) to find it.

Took out the chip.

Joe T,

I took out my chip on Monday. I did notice the "mushy" shifts, but not a problem like I experienced before. Of course it was a long time between the two occurrences. I don't know how to put it in the same conditions as times it happened. One time I was going 40 and it happened and the other it was going 80 in cruise control. Could the torque converter be messing with me? I had a problem a long, long time ago when it would do the 1-2 shift under really hard accelleration around 5000-5500 rpms it would squeal like a fan belt slipping. It did that fairly consistently (I shyed away from putting it through it. It made people look at me funny.) Someone here suggested the torque converter. Then it seemed like it went away. I had the tranny fluid changed and it hasn't done the squeal that I know of, but I have this other problem. Help!?!?!

Doug
