Do I need to change Trany oil ?

I love changing my engine oil. I do it every 3000. So I have never changed trany oil. Do I really need to do this ? 89,000 on my trany and it has the shudder problem.

Ford recomends every 30k. I'd say you're way over due.

Yea, you've probably decreased the life of that baby about 50%! But you never really know!

I BABY mine! I change the trans fluid EVERY YEAR (25K per year)... I have about 77K on it and started to get the shudder on vacation RIGHT AS MY 75K WARRANTY EXPIRED!!!

I changed the fluid (with only 8K on the fluid) and the fluid was already darkening QUITE A BIT! I replaced the OE Mercon III with Mobil1 Synthetic... WOW! Felt like a tune-up or the vehicle lost about a 1,000 pounds! The shudder is still there but not that noticeable!

I only get the shudder (mostly) between 35-40 MPH.

I recommend changing the filter and FLUSHING the entire system. DO NOT just have the drain and fill done. I also recommend using Mercon V or Amsoil or Mobil1...

BTW: Next truck... Buy a good trans cooler from the start and change the fluids every 2 years or 24K... Your trans should go 200K!

Rand,

What was your procedure for "flushing" the entire system?

Thanks,
Kevin

Thumbs down Mike-

You need to change it. If you made it that long with the original AT fluid, you may want to make sure that other maintenance items have been addressed.
