Shifting Issue

Im having a shifting issue at the moment and cant seem to pinpoint whats causing the problem. After doing some searches on here ive come across many different situations were people are having shifting issues but none seem to be similar to my problem and have read that many things can be causeing the problems like bad COPS or a bad plug or something with overdrive etc.

Anyways, the problem im having is at cruseing speed (like 3rd gear im guessing?) ill press the pedal down just enough to switch into the next gear (2nd?) and it seems as though its slipping, the truck will jerk a few times like it wants to switch gears but it keeps missing. Once i press the pedal down a little more it will shift just fine and smooth, it doesnt bang into gear or anything. This especially happends when im going uphill and has been happening for a few months now and seems to be getting worse.

I just took the truck over to AAMCO to get the multipoint inspection and they said the fluid looks good and there are no codes showing anything and that they could not recreate the problem on the road but i can get it to happen everytime i drive it.

What do you all think? is there another thread out there thats similar or has anyone else had similar problems? or maybe let me know of something to check myself? thanks in advance

The truck is a 2004 FX4 with 151k miles. 5.4 engine.

How many miles on the spark plugs, and what brand are they?

It could be cops - this does sound like a low grade misfire.

Well i had the engine replaced about 10k miles ago, engine had 61k miles on it then and it was from a junk yard so im guessing the plugs were changed then but knowing the piece of crap shop that put it in they may not have. I dont konw what brand they are i would have to look.

Could this lead to either getting plugs changed along with new cops?

Hi,
This sounds exactly like what I just went through. Mine was fine cold, but once it was warm, on heavy load just before a down shift, the whole truck would vibrate and buck almost. I had a loose plug as a result of just having them changed, and I think it wrecked my COP as well. Finally got bad enough to throw a #5 misfire, changed plug and COP, and its all good now. Hope that helps.

Yep that sounds about right. Im probably going to be doing a plug change this weekend. Where would i be able to get a new COP? does places like autozone or advanced auto carry them?

Yes they do, but that's not the most cost-effective way to get them. These are essentially OEM:
