replacment 4r70w to 4r100

I've got a 4.6l and a 4r70w tranny. Instead of getting a used one would ford or a transmiSsion shop b able to order a new 4r100 and the computers for it? Would anything else need to be replaced?

If you are 2wd its doable...if you are 4wd STOP HERE! Its not worth the headache for a 4wd truck!

I recently did this BUT I did a complete drivetrain swap...from 4.6 / 4r70w/8.8 to a 5.4/4r100/9.75. its probably going to be a little tougher to keep the 4.6...you might want to bite the bullet and put a 5.4 in at the same time if you can do the work your self (I bet the money you saved on a computer, and then custom tuning would pay for a good chunk of a good used 5.4 and you will love the low end power!). you will have to get a computer that is for a truck with a 4r100 trans (Im pretty sure they only came behind 5.4's which means you will have to run a 5.4 computer and then have it custom tuned. Also need to have your driveshaft shortened as the 4r100 is quite a bit longer. Last thing you will need for sure is a 4r100 trans harness. Keep in mind anytime you change computers you are going to have to have ford reflash your Pats system as well. If you find the right deals on parts its totally doable but if not it can get extremely expensive in a hurry! I took a complete running drivetrain out of a running donor truck and swapped it all into my truck at once.

If you are interested I have a 2000 PCM for a 5.4 & 4r100 combo, engine wiring harness, and a 4r100 trans harness available...I added a lightning supercharger and all wiring after so all the NA parts & wiring were removed. Send me a PM if you are interested!
