How long has your rebuild lasted?

I am picking my truck up at the shop today after a tranny rebuild. Apparently the main roller bearing came completely apart. New bearing, clutches and torque converter installed, along with whatever else. Just curious; how long has your rebuilt transmission lasted? I have owned this truck since day 1 ('06 F150 Supercrew 2WD 5.4L) and it has never been abused. It has 106,000 miles on it, but there is no reason the tranny should have went out on me.

If it has been properly rebuilt there is no reason it would not last as long or longer than the original. Unfortunately there are a lot of transmission shops that will only replace the failed part and slap it back together and call it rebuilt. Short of removing the trans and taking it apart yourself there is no way to prove they did what they said they did and they know that.

Your rebuild longevity will be based on the person doing the rebuild and what quality of parts were used and how many of the operating components were replaced......

Which is exactly why I went with the Ford reman. Commercial pricing from my dealer was $1,750 for the Ford reman trans plus the install by a private shop at $800. Worked out to be the same or less than the best prices that I could get for unknown quality rebuild jobs by local trans shops. And it comes with a 3 year warranty so it's going to last at least 3 years... one way or another. ; ) lol

120,000 stock trans went out, bought a ford reman and installed myself, 50,000 miles later it went out, but was covered under their warranty from buying the trans

find out all you can about the shop, and ask for the old part. we build trannys completely, not just replace the one part that failed, and we routinely get 100+k out of a rebuild. often shops will offer longer warranties(they cost a little more but ask.) we have a few life time trans warranties, although they must be serviced by us every year or 12k
