Will not shift out of first gear.
Hi everyone, new here and could really use some help.
I have an 1996 F150 with a 5.8L and automatic E4OD.
Last Friday the starter went out in it and a friend came to help and while he was there I was trying to find a towing outfit to flat bed this thing about 3-4 miles to the home, my friend says I've got a rope I'll just tow you home.
Knowing that towing an automatic equipped vehicle a long distance can do damage to the tranny I thought it'll be fine with just 3 or 4 miles. Replaced the starter a few days latter and everything seemed to work fine until I tried to drive it down the street, it will shift into drive and go down the street but know it will not shift out of first until about 4000 rpm and slams into second gear.
I would thank you in advance for any ideas, even if means the tranny so badly damaged I have to replace it.

This happened to my '99 4R70W, and it was a broken 1-2 accumulator spring ... a simple/cheap ($10 spring) fix if you're handy w/ tools. I have no idea if the E4OD is similar in this respect, but it might be a place to start looking. https://www.f150online.com/forums/tr...10-spring.html

Might take a little while though.
