ok - i see a lot of threads about trans temps, how or where did you install the sensor unit.

i have an electronic pick up unit

 

The best place IMO is the transmission output line. You would see the hottest temps there.

witch line is the output to the cooler, and whats the best way to connect in? can i cut tubing and use compression fitiings _ what size? what kind of pressure's are there ?

 

The trans output line is the one that runs into the top of your rad cooler, it then comes out the bottom of the rad cooler and goes to your external cooler then back to the trans.

You can cut the tubing and use compression fittings. I cut mine right before it went into the rad cooler (to keep it in the engine compartment as apposed to under the truck). I used a simple T fitting and some rubber transmission line and hose clamps.

I am not sure of the line size it has been a while since I did it.

 

Follow the lines and fluid comes from the front of the trans, and returns at the rear.

So I can just put a T-fitting onto the trans line and put my sender into the line and I should be good to go?

 

The lines are 3/8" OD on my '99. I used Autometer's manifold, but you can also use fittings available at any hardware store.

Oh snap that picture is perfect. Thanks. Can I use anywhere on the trans lines? Like can I use a spot right beside the trans cooler?

 

Just make sure it is before the cooler.

Install 3 gauges. One in the cooling line to see how hot the fluid is coming out. One in the return line to see the temp of fluid going back, and to check on the efficiency of your cooling units. Then finally, a sensor in your pan to check pan temperature.

 

If your sending unit is 1/8" npt a lot of the Ford trans. have an 1/8" npt plug near the trans shift lever. That's where I put mine on my '05 & it worked fine.

 

3 trans temp gauges might be excessive.

 

One could wire a couple of senders thru a 2-way toggle if that was desired although the one in the transmission would show the oil temp in the transmission. Cooler out line would show temp from converter which is hotter, might scare you to see how hot that gets.
