Unhappy Fixed problems and new, 9K miles

Hey there...
Well, I've got 9k on my 01. Radiator replaced w/ right one.
Driveshaft replaced as per TSB (too short, all you supercabs check this out!!! Damn it vibrated at 95MPH! ) Idle surge fixed (wrong EGR valve, check this all you '01s!!!) and doors adjusted. But NOW...
Sometimes my lovely and talented 4R70W doesn't want to go back into OD after a long run uphill in 3rd, locked up, even though I'm on level ground again! Also, from time to time, it doen't want to lock up properly in 4th OD (I can tell by the RPM shift.) I'll actually have to hit the OD switch to kick it out of OD and then hit it again, causing it to hit OD and then lock up (proper RPM drop).
WHAT THE #*@K?!? Oh well, I still love my truck. Any shared symptoms? Should I start the bitching process at the dealer?

I think I'll but that non-prorated extended warranty before 12K

Unhappy

Hey Palerider

I have a 01 supercab, at 90 mph i also get a bad vibration, so there is a TSB on this problem? and ford will replace the drive shaft under warranty?. I also think i have the idle surge, when i start my truck and put it into gear right away the idle will drop way down and then it will surge back up. If i start my truck and wait a couple of seconds it`s fine, it did it so bad one day it died on me. I only have about 5000 miles on my truck.

Any information you can give me on these to problems will help me a lot. i will be making an appointment with the dealer to bring my truck in to be fixed.

Thanks.

Larry.

90MPH VIBRATION

Speeder-

There is a TSB listed under driveline vibration / driveshaft extension housing. Here's the problem, just coming to light, although the TSB has been out since February.
It seems that the stock driveshaft is too short for the extended cabs. At just the right rotational speed, regardless of balance, it will cause a horrendous cab-felt vibration. The fix is to add a new part, "Extension Housing", and replace the driveshaft with a new, longer (and lighter, I looked at 'em both!) driveshaft with a much nicer dampener assembly on it.

If you don't get it fixed, you'll have a seeping output seal just like me (you may already have) and get a nice buring smell every now and then when a droplet hits the crossover pipe.

Get it fixed! Oh, and they will update your ECM with the lastest program, since the new rotational vaules are in there. I personally noticed a bit of a performance boost, probably due to the lighter driveshaft.

Thanks for the information, looks like i will be taking my truck to the dealer in the next week. With a TSB on the vibration they probably won`t give me any problems on that part, hopefully they won`t give me a bunch of $h!t when i tell them about the EGR possibly being bad, or the wrong one.

Thanks Again.

Larry.

I have a '01 lightning and it used to vibrate bad at 90 mph. I put on a new exhaust and that solved 90% of the problem. I do have fluid coming from the rear transmission seal though. I wonder if my problem is the same as the supercab problem.

Unhappy vibration

Hi easterisland

The TSB is only for some ford vehicles ( F150 ) built before 3/1/01
and is for the 4R70W transmission. My truck was built 9/25/01 so it was covered under this TSB. Also part of the TSB, the dealer is supposed to reprogram the computer to limit the speed of the truck. I think your Lightning has a 4R100 transmission?, so you might have another problem?. What ever you do, don`t let them
( dealer ) reprogram your computer. The shop foreman told me this, and i also read it in the TSB, the shop foreman told me that he would not reprogram my computer but wanted me to let him know if the new parts fixed the problem. They did.

I hope this helps.

Larry.

Question

speeder, you mention 'some Ford trucks' could this possibly include the Super Crew??? I believe these trucks are built on the same SC platform. I have had a vibration that starts at 70 and never goes away. I've done tires, wheels, checked driveshaft for runout etc. to no avail. I had all of this done BEFORE the TSB came out so maybe this might apply.

Does ANYBODY have the full TSB???

Thanks

'01 Screw, Lariat, 5.4l, CD Changer, 60/40 bench.

Unhappy Vibration

Hi sprcrew

I have a copy of the TSB.
TSB#01-9-1, Here is what it says, ISSUE: Some vehicles built before 3-1-01 may exhibit a high speed driveline vibration that may cause possible transmission and/or driveshaft damage. This may result in the 4R70W transmission extension housing bushing to be spun out of the extension housing or may cause the extension housing seal to leak. The other part of this TSB is that the dealer is to reprogram the comupter with an updated calibration that will reduce the maximum top speed of the vehicle to reduce the possibility of vibration.
When i took my truck in with this problem, the shop foreman said he needed to verify the problem. So he took it out and drove it at 90 mph and found the vibration. The dealer replaced the driveshaft and the extension housing under this TSB.

I hope this helps you out.

Larry.
