Swap torque converter from 04 to 01
Swap torque converter from 04 to 01
Just wondering - would a torque converter from a 2004 (new bodystyle) 4.6 swap into a 2001 4.6? The 01 is a 4r70w, the 04 - I'm not sure but its just a base model 49 state model.
Any ideas

The 04 4.6 used a 4R70E except in the Heritage, which carried over the 4R70W. Only the 5.4 used the 4R75E. The 4.6 didn't get the 4R75E till 06.
I do not know if the converters are interchangeable.

4r70e was used in 01-03 5.4 and 01-05 4.6
4r75w 04-05 5.4
4r75e 06-08 5.4 and 4.6
all the 4r7xx converters will swap onto the input shafts but some are different sizes and will need the corresponding flexplate
I don't think Gotts's info is correct.

It did not have a 4R75E in it as that info suggest.

And I have to go through that again with more new info.
OP, It may or may not. You'll have to pull it and match flexplate bolt patterns.

I may not be correct on my info but I know now that they can all be swapped quite easily through out the entire family.
