My 2006 F150 5.4 4x4 has started downshifting hard from 4th to 3rd, It also engages hard when shifted from park to drive. On a side note, I have a Gryphon tuner that I use on the level 1 (trans. only) canned tune at times, with this tune the harshness of the downshift is much worse.

At times the engine even seems to stumble when making this downshift like the engine is misfiring or something, Is that the computer trying to compensate for the tranny problem or part of the problem maybe???

The truck drives fine other than these two issues. I took it to a local transmission shop to get their thoughts, they said the trans. fluid looks good, no burning smell or anything. They werent sure what to suggest without tearing into it for a rebuild.

The truck has 106,000 miles on it.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I am considering trading it in before it gets worse if a complete rebuild is my only option. Not sure what my best course of action is right now.:

Doesnt seem to be getting worse for now.

No Opinions??? Just looking for some insight before I decide to fix or trade.

Trans. shop thought $1700-1800 would rebuild it properly.
