M5OD swap to a ZF?

I have a 1996 F150 inline6 4x2. If I need a new tranny should I put the "zf" in it? I tried searching ZF but im not finding exactly what it is. Is it a stronger tranny then the M5OD? If I was to put the ZF in what one would I look for, and where should I look? What would I need to replace if I was putting the ZF in? The hydraulic system? Should I get a new clutch?

It would be a LOT easier to replace it with another M5OD, and it's strong enough to work fine behind a 300. The ZF is a heavy duty tranny used in the Super Dutys with big V8's and diesels.
