trans compatability 4R75E

Does anybody know if a 08 4R75E will fit in place of an 04 4R75E. Was there any electrical changes or would this be a direct swap?

you have a 4r75w. For that I do not know 100%. It SHOULD be plug and play with some custom tuning changes for the different valve bodies.

You said it "SHOULD" be compatable. Well I dont want to make a 1K mistake on something that should be compatable that isnt. That is why I am clarifing my question. Darrin B. had said they are more or less the same but I would like to know the differences and why the 4R75E was ok for the 4.6L but not the 5.4L in 04-05 but it is fine in the 06 and up trucks.

You are going to have to ask Darrin, he's the tranny expert.

Yes I did say it should be compatible. Here is why. I put over 1 year of research on how to swap a 4r75e into my truck and I did that about 8 months ago. My guidance also helped another member on here do the same with his 00 model. I never did look into the 4r75w trans that hard because I figured I would step it up a few more years of technology and go the 4r75e route. The main differences between my old 4r70w and the 4r75e go as following the oss count went from 6 to 24. Your truck also has the 24 count oss gear. I also needed Ford wiring pig tail (wpt) 159, you may or may not need that pig tail. The epc solenoid in the 4r70w and 4r75e are different. For the 4r75w/e I do believe they are the same but a quick google search trying to buy the part should confirm that. Both epc solenoids will plug into each other and the pin outs on the outside of the trans are the same. I am also unsure of any valvebody changes between the 2 trucks. So in hindsight for your truck it should be exactly as I described in my original reply.

He has it backwards. 97 to 03 had E4OD, 4R70W, or 4R100. 04+ had 4R70W, 4R70E, 4R75W, or 4R75E. If you are putting a tranny into a 98, put the same thing back in. If the trans code on the door jamb sticker is a "U", you have a 4R70W.

yes i have the 70w for sure. the reason for the new trans is,i done a 5.4 swap, and was told to use the 5.4 torque convertor. well my stupid non thinking self pulled the torque convertor off the donor expedition. well it had a 4r100. and now after swapping the torque convetors back to the original 4.6's . my trans does nothing just like with the 4r100 convertor. i think the larger splines have been stripped a little to much from the wrong convertor
