Absolutely worth it. One of the best bang for your $$ options. Especially at a fraction of the cot of 4WD and you don't have to carry around all the extra weight of 4WD. This is the first time I've had it. I'll never be without it again. Even though I never got stuck before, now I have some cheap piece of mind. I do believe it has helped me crawl out of a wet boat ramp more than once.

Love them trucks!!!

Yup- that's my main concern is boat launches up north that have very soft sand bottoms. I've had problems before when I didn't have lim slip or 4wd, man is that irratating when trying to pull the boat out of the water. That, and some snow driving in the winter.

ok I very well convinced that when the time to order the S-Crew comes, it's going to have the LS option!

Thanks to all for the input. This site is great!

The limited slip option is one of the cheapest options available that will help you drive through snow or get you up slippery boat ramps. This option is the nearest thing to 4 wheel drive that you would need in your applications...

I think it's worthwhile to get it if you are buying a 2wd, which you said you were looking at.

I have a 4x4. LS will not do for me what a 4x4 will do even if only one front and one rear tire are driving.

When I first got my truck I loved the LS rear end. Now I am very disappointed as it seems to rarely work when needed in the winter. I took it in and they said it works fine but it works nothing like it did when the truck was new. It sucks! Just one of many reasons my next truck will most likely be a Chevy.

Black Frog,
The ONLY disadvantage to a LS would be if you wanted to add an aftermarket locker, such as the E-Z locker, etc. later..the LS makes it a little more difficult.
LS depend on friction plates which will wear with mileage, but these can always be replaced. I heard you can get HD plates if you desire better traction. I think the Mustang guys are doing this.
I agree though..for the $ the LS is a real steal.
I sold my '97 ORP with 62K on it, the LS was still holding well and spinning both tires. The manual says you need to include an additive when you change the fluid, that's the only "special" care I know of compared to an open diff.
Good luck and congrats on your new truck!

Question A little off subject

I have owned my truck for a little over a year and need to know where to see if I have an LS or not. I know this sounds rediculous, but I purchased it off the lot, don't have the window sticker, and don't know where to look or what I've got.

SilverCrew,

You can look on the sticker in your door panel. "19" under Axle means open, "H9" means limited slip (this is for the 3.55 gear ratio though, I don't know if the codes are the same for other gears).

You can also check the tag on the rear diff., it should have an "L" somewhere after the gear ratio.

SAVES MONEY ON TIRES

I have limited slip on my 99 supercab and it helps alot from burning the tires. Especially on rainy days. My work truck does not have L/S and it spins the right tire very easy from a stand still.
Go ahead and get it you won't regret it.
