1998 V8 F150 Standard Transmission
1998 V8 F150 Standard Transmission
Hey everyone.
So I have been looking around, and have had little luck in trying to find the part number for the standard transmission for the V8's. I read somewhere that the tow ratings for the standards were low, was this just the design of the truck, or was it the overall design of the tranny. Also, if anyone has thoughts, what transmission could be interchanged into the F150 either from a larger truck, or a different type such as a ZF or an Allison?
Just wondering as I will need to switch out my transmission soon.

I don't know the part number, but the only M5OD-R2 that you can use is one from a 4.6 and the same drive type (2wd or 4wd). The M5OD-R2 is a light duty transmission built by Mazda, and has a known fragile input shaft, which is the main reason tow ratings are low and why it wasn't offered behind a 5.4.
You can put a ZF in out of a Super Duty with a modular engine (5.4 V8 or 6.8 V10). There's a few threads around here on that conversion, it essentially requires a body lift and/or hacking a huge hole in the floor.
