so i'm going to pick up a used tranny today (4r70W out of an 03 mustang GT) i'm wondering what you guys think of buying a used trans, anything i should know, expect, or look for.

i'm getting it for $250. it has 50k miles on it it's from a private seller (not a junkyard) i found on a local mustang forum, it is in working order (according to the seller and other forum members), but it doesn't come with a Torque Converter. no biggy, i plan on beefing this trans up (darrin burch expect my call).

the reason i'm getting it is because my mustang has 90k miles on it and i'm getting TC shutter and before i have the fluid changed i'd like to have a back up tranny, in case something goes awry.

 

My 95 Mark VIII that had a 4R70W developed TC shudder (at about 60k miles) and a fluid change fixed it. Sold it with 113k miles and still worked great. This was a very common issue with that vintage.

 

I have a tranny out if a 2001 gt that I had converted to a manual. The tranny only had 900 miles on it. It came out of a wreck. If you are interested in it just shoot me a message.
