Slipping?

My 07 4.6 recently started to shake when I go up a small hill or when I'm cruising. I don't really know much about this issue and the first thing I thought might be the problem was maybe my plugs and wires might be needing replaced. I'm not entirely sure and wanted to get some input from you guys!

How many miles on it?

You don't have plug wires, by the way - you have a coil on top of each plug.

Its got 65,000. I was listening to it today some more and I'm starting to think its more COP or plug related because it sounds more like the engine is misfiring and causing the transmission to jump between gears.

That being said does anyone know a roundabout for the dealer to replace plugs and cops?

Deadringer for a shuddering TCC. Try a tube of "Dr. tranny's instant shudder fix". If that does not help it, torque converter replacenent will be required. Good luck!

I am inclined to agree with GLC on this one. I had a similar experience in the 4.6 I used to have. My symptoms were very similar to yours. You may notice it more as you exceed 45 to 50 MPH. You can get a set of OEM COPs from the Global Automotive Store on EBAY for $100.

I'd change the plugs first - at 65k it's getting near time for them anyway. I believe a dealer is gonna charge you between 2 and 3 hours labor and probably about 7 bucks apiece for plugs. If you are reasonably mechanically inclined you can change them yourself.

If you need cops, the dealer is gonna rape you about 80 bucks a cop - about the same as a FULL SET from Ebay.

If you still think it's a tranny issue, I'd get a full fluid exchange before dumping snake oil in it. Additives are a last resort. Did you use dielectric grease in the cop boots when you reinstalled them?

This concern is most definatly a TCC shudder. Take the pan off, theres probably some fine brass looking material in there. Change the filter and fluid, put a tube of the "shudder fix" in there and give it a try. If it doesnt improve, replace the torque converter. Cheers!

This is how I test for a bad coil.

Put the E-brake on and chock all four wheels. Start the engine and put the truck in 2nd gear. Lightly throttle from under the hood and check for the studder. If you don't feel confortable doing this have someone help you by pressing the gas and brake while you feel for the engine studder. Pull power to one coil at a time and see if the studder gets worse. If it does not get worse you have found your bad coil. Be very careful not to run yourself over!

What tires do you have. I have Pirelli Scorpions ATR's and they flat spot on me every time its parked overnight. It takes me at least 10 miles when the weather is cold to warm them up so they stop shaking.

If it's none of the above take the transmission advice others have given.
