No 3rd or OD-Electrical?
Hey Gang, new member to this page. I have consulted it for help in the past and alot of you fellas really know your stuff. I have a 2000 F150 2wd 4.6 146k that went haywire 2 weeks ago when I turned on my flashers to load some salt in the bed. Got back in and shut em off and the blower, radio, and turn signals were out and several idiot lights were on. Shut off and restarted and all were fine except ABS and brake warning light stayed on. Chk engine light has been on for 2 years with an oxygen sensor (changed twice) and it has been off since. Tranny has always been great but after a day it stopped shifting to 3rd or OD. First shop found nothing. Idiot lights went out after a week. Still no shift. Ford found P0733 and P0734 for 3rd and 4th gear incorrect and suggested new tranny. Took it to electrical shop and found a bad ground in the right kickpanel but that didn't fix it. No lights since. Home fluid and filter change 12k ago, level good, looks good. Stumped. Can't believe the electrical and tranny aren't related. A Buddy had a 2003 Focus that a ground fix cured the tranny trouble. Help!
All I can say is my experience was the intermediate stub shaft was broke when I never had 3rd of 4th gear (mine was a build issue)
Though, to be sure there is one solenoid pack I know of that could give you a problem.
Shift solenoid pack has 2 sides, if one side does not fire you will not get third since 2nd gear is 'default' meaning both solenoids are off.
If you have the time, my link in my sig should have some info from Darrin Burch in my "transmission saga" thread. (link below)

Thanks for the link. Wow, that was some BS you had to go through to get your tranny working. I started out just reading a couple pages, but then it was like a novel I couldn't put down. Did you ever get it resolved and get your money back for the other build? Sounds like Darrin did you a nice job and several other guys chimed in with some good knowledge. Sounds from your post like my problem might not be electrical because it does seem to neutral out (kinda) when the rpms get high enough and I don't have the OD turned off. Called the guy I had rebuild the tranny in my sons S-10 and he thinks I might have an issue with the solenoids. Heck of a coincidence between the ground problem and tranny goin though.
Darrin did a great trans for me, I'm currently receiving $200 a month from Rods Cars, we're about 3/4 done. Had to drag him through arbitration via BBB which he ignored that "contract" (you sign it when you enter into an arbitration that whatever the outcome you agree to fulfill it) which gave me another leg to stand on in small claims court.
A solenoid could be a problem, its cheaper to rule that out than it is to rebuild the trans. I wouldn't and did not rule out the shift solenoid pack on mine, its about $50.
