Big Problems!!!! Help...

So the other day, i take my 04 4.6 SSCREW out to go shopping and i made it about a mile before she did something that almost made me cry! About 35 mph the truck slipped out of drive and wouldnt recapture. Coasting along like it was in neutral! After a rev or two,,, it cluncked back into drive. Now i know the weather plays a big role in tranny issues but i doubt that it has anything to do with this one. It was about 8f deg outside. And we had some snow and ice on the ground. But nothing major. The truck kept slipping for about an hour till i figured something out. It wouldnt slip with the OD off. Once i pressed the button i couldnt get it to slip anymore. But when i turned the OD back on, it imediatly started slipping again. In all gears, and all the time. There where no warning signs up till now. It didnt really act like it was having problems either.
I made some calls to some trusted tranny shops and they all said the same thing.... The truck had spun the overdrive out of it!
All the basics have been checked.... Fluid levels, and color, and it has had regular maintenance. Does this sound right to you guys? Does it seem like the OD is gone out? And if so........ Does 1600 for a new tranny sound right?

Seriously????? No one knows if 1600 is a good price? Nobody can answer? Help me out here guys.

They're $1970 from the dealership. Ebay has some cheaper.

That's not going to be a "new" tranny from the dealer or anywhere else - it will be a reman.

Im aware that its not a "new" tranny. Its new to me. It is a reman tranny from a good shop. It comes with a three year warantee. From the bell housing to the back bumper.
If i bought one online, i wouldnt get the warantee and not to mention,,, i dont have the time to drop one and put another one in.

Thats parts and labor, out the door. Fords price to replace the tranny was $4,875. And that didnt include additional parts. The shop im towing it to maintains the whole drive line and puts in new u joints and will do a rear end flush for an additional 25 bucks. Ford wants 275 for a flush.

I think that all this is a great deal. But wasnt sure if anyone else out there knows of any better deals.
