Got a C.E.L and it's P1740

Well my CEL came on last night, went today and got the code. It's P1740 "TCC failure solenoid detected."

I'm not very familiar with transmissions so I really have no idea what's going on.

Can someone elaborate on what it means and also how to fix it, or how much it will cost to fix it.

Thanks everyone.

My truck is a
2001 F150 5.4L 4x4 with the automatic tranny.

Well, it is an electrical part that diverts fluid pressure to lock the torque converter clutch when you are crusin'.

Not too hard to change at all, but it also could be the wiring leading to it. Either way you need to drain the fluid and drop the pan/filter first.

Post your TRANS code from the door jam sticker. U for 4R70w, E for 4R100 in your model year.

I'm 99% sure I have the 4R70w, but I will double check and post again to confirm this.

Checked the door tag. My TR type is U so I do have the 4R70w transmission.

Sorry, I don't have a pan down picture of a 4R70w to tell you exactly which solenoid it is, but the ford dealer should be able to with a diagram print out when you buy a new one.

Is it as simple as un bolting the tranny pan. Draining the fluid replacing the solenoid, bolting the pan back up and re filling?

yikes...not looking forward to that.

Since I got the code read, I reset it and it hasn't come back. Should I still consider getting it fixed or wait till it pops up again?

I really haven't noticed any shifting problems on street or the highway.

Fo' sho'.

Both the 4R55E, and E4OD TTC solenoids I've changed out were around 120 if i remember right.

If it ain't back, and ain't slippin', it is your call on changin' it.

I drain the fluid by pumping out through the cooler lines and idling the engine. Also I throw in a tranny drain plug while the pan is down.

So I found this picture on here:

The TCC solenoid is the round black object right above the pink painted part correct?

So if I were to drain my tranny fluid, unbolt the pan I would see what I see in the picture above?

And I just unbolt the old TCC solenoid and screw the new one in?

Also is this the part that I need?
http://compare.ebay.com/like/3303458...=263602_304692

http://cobratransmission.com/index.p...ucts_id=109065

Do either of those two websites contain the TCC solenoid for my transmission that I need?

Thanks everyone
