Arrow 97 5.4 Transfer case HELP

ive got a 1997 5.4L and about 6 months ago the transfer case went out so we took it to the local tranny shop and they compleatly rebuilt the tranny, and transfer case, and its only in 2wd, the guy said it was just the computer module for $350 to fix it and we didnt want to spend that much more at the time. i was just wondering if anyone knows what i could do to fix it for cheaper then the shop, or if i should just take it in to get it done.

Thanks for you help if you can!

Do you have the electronic shift on the fly? What went out in the transfer case?

The GEM (Generic Electronic Module) controls the Electronic Shift transfercase motor based on the input from the selector switch. If that is what he is referring to then you need to program it to the vehicle when it is replaced.
