92 tranny issues

hey guys new here i see its for 97 and newer fords but maybe you guys can help me out, i just picked up a 92 f150 4x4 v8 automatic , its in great shape except for one transmission problem.
all gears work fine no slipping, no hard shifting and when its cold reverse works great but... as it warms up it takes a couple seconds to shift into reverse after moving the shifter. even worse is that at normal running temp it has no reverse but let it cool down and voila reverse reappears. now i am not new to vehicles but this is my first ford and i cannot find much info anywhere. i was told by a transmission shop that i had a c6 tranny but i don't know where/how to clarify. is there a number i can look for maybe to help with this issue. Also they wanted 700 to crack it open and have a look but i am hesitant. if this is fixable id love to not have to get a shop to do it but if its easier to replace it well then ill have to replace it.

Thanks, Tyler

What is the TRANS code on the door jamb sticker? If it has overdrive, it's not a C6, it's either an AOD or an E4OD. The E4OD has the OD lockout button on the end of the shift ****.

Or if your door jam sticker is unreadable, count the pan bolts underneath. 20 for the E4OD, 17 for the C6.

Sounds like your reverse band is burnt up and a good shop can do a rebuild.

Shift quadrants:

C6 - PRND21
E4OD - PRN(D)21 with OD lockout button
AOD - PRN(D)D1

ok so i found a very helpful thread on here today, tranny code on the door is T which if it tells me correct it is an AOD. so not going back to the tranny shop lol. dumb thing about a small town is that theres only one shop that does transmissions around here. all other gears are working great so i will drive it to the next town this week hopefully shine some light on this issue. I'd really like to drive it around more not worrying about pullthrough parking haha. anyways it seems to have good ratio for highways which my jeep severely lacks so id like to keep it, approx how much should a rebuild cost me for a shop to do it 800 more or less. p.s the shop i had brought it to i read a sign that says financing available
