Trans Fluid Change

I have a 1997 E4OD transmission in my expedition. The transmission pan does not have a drain plug. I have read a procedure about changing the fluid by hooking up a clear line to a bucket and pumping the old fluid out till an air bubble appears then turning the truck off/refill/repeat till 20qts have run through the system. Will this damage the transmission since the pan would probably be dry for a few seconds?

Just take off the pan get a square bucket they sell them at autozone. let one end of the pan drop. Remove the inspection cover at the bottom of the bell housing and rotate the engine with a breaker bar until the drain plug shows up and drain the torque converter replace the filter in the pan. I do it every other year takes a half an hour. holds 15 quarts.
