Did it finally crap out?

well i got a 97 f150, its a 4.6 with a 4R70 4x4. its got 260k miles. AFAIK its the stock transmission and engine. heres the problem(s):

got the truck, shudder at 45-50. replaced plug/wires/coils. helped for about 100 miles, shudders still.

if im cruising at 50, the engine is below 1500RPM in OD. when it comes out of OD when i hit the gas, it clunks pretty hard. hard enough that it rattles the change in my ashtray.

it also is slow to take off. i hit the gas from a stop, it revs up a little before it starts to move.

then the latest problem, last night i was on my way to my buddys shop to do some late night tire changes and came up behind a lightning. i started telling my buddy about how cool the lightnings were, and he didnt believe me that they were supercharged. so, my trucks loud, i popped it into neutral and reved it up a bit to see if the lightning would rev back. he did, and i put into first like i usually do going from red light to red light to save my brakes a little. so i went from 1st, to 2nd, then drive. when i hit drive, it neutral'd out. i always let off the gas when manually changing gears, i stayed off the gas going from 2 to D for about 3 seconds, then i hit the gas and it reved up. let the RPMs fall, hit the gas again and it reved up. finally after letting it fall and sit there at idle, it caught when i hit the gas. it was fine the rest of the night(apart from the other problems)

so, is my tranny dying more and more? or is there something else that could be the problem?

EDIT all this was with my 31s on the truck. i was on my way to put the 33 swampers on when it happened.

Sounds like it's definitely on it's way to a rebuild.
If you've got 260K miles out of it you've done well.

Had mine rebuilt this week, 212K, mine wasn't slipping, it had started slamming the 1-2 shift, going into OD too quick, 20 mph sometimes and had to floor it to downshift.
Sure is running sweet again! Got it done for $1200.00, would be interested what price others are getting.
