what transmission do i have?

what i have is a 1999 f-150 5.4l 4x4. i beleve it is a aode. my transmission went out last night i got no foward gears but i do have reverse. im looking either to get a remaned trans or rebuild this one myself. if i do try to rebuild this one myself is there a book that i can buy that tells me how do do a step by step rebuild. and also while im in there what parts are recomemded to replace for making the trans more "bullet proof"??

It's not an AODE. It's either a 4R70W or 4R100. Look at the door jamb sticker for the trans code, a 4R70W is code "U" and a 4R100 is code "E".

The AODE was never used in a F-150. If it looks like one, it's a 4R70W. If it's a 4R100 it's going to have 20 pan bolts.

What does the DOOR STICKER say?

That is RARE in the 99's - do you have the 7700 package with 7 lug wheels?

Just to avoid confusion - the AODE was the forerunner to the 4R70W, where the E4OD was the forerunner to the 4R100.
