F150 tranmission problems
F150 tranmission problems
Hello all,
I have a 2004 FX4 with about 56600 miles on it and i have recently been having problems with the transmission i believe.
1) When i put the truck into reverse adn i dont wait a few seconds to accelerate i get bad wheel hop like it is not dropping into gear. Now if i what about 10 seconds after putting into reverse to accelerate it feels as if it drops into gear, but very hard and forcefully. If i wait after it drops in to accelerate it seem to drive fine in reverse with no wheel hop.
2) Now the same problem when in drive but not as violent or bad. If I put it in drive and accelerate immediatly and to fast it feels as if it slips like twice and then drops into gear. Now if i wait a second and accelerate slowly it seems to be fine.
I am not sure why this is. I checked my trannsmission fluid and it seems to be fine and it only has 56600 miles on it so i wouldnt think it would need a rebuild.
3) Oh ya i also hadone more question. I had a bed full of wood (solid stumps) and i was getting like a loud rubbing noise from the rear whenever i would accelerate or turn. It kind of sounded as if one of my plastic flares were rubbing on a tire but extrememly loud. Once i got up to about 60mph though on the freeway it seemed to go away and then by the time i reached pismo beach(about 3hrs away) it was fully gone even when i accelerated. Now the truck did sit for a long time form the previous owner so i was thinking that all the bushings and driveshaft hadnt had that kind of load on them and were just settling. Any ideas why this was?
I am not sure why this is. I checked my trannsmission fluid and it seems to be fine and it only has 56600 miles on it so i wouldnt think it would need a rebuild.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated...

Just got mine fully rebuilt at 60,000 miles.... I lost reverese in it... When we opened it up all the clutches were burnt and the sun shell weld was wore bad... I went ahead and got every thing replaced instead of just the basic clutch rebuild.... Kinda disapointed in FORD... If you google problems with F-150 tranny you will get pages of stuff.
You can check my thread out F-150 with no reverse I will post some pics soon

Mine is in the shop getting rebuilt right now for this exact same problem. 04 FX4 97k miles. It was running fine until I went to back out of a parking space and it hesitated to go into reverse and then banged in, drove it the next day and reverse was acting odd, by the time I got home from work it would already grind while in reverse.
