E40d to Zf5 Swap?

Well as many of you all know I just hit the 383,000 mark on my 97 f-150 4x4 with the 5.4. The problem is I am starting to get extremely hard shifts and the overdrive light flashes from time to time and every now and then I get a slip in reverse.

Basically I was wondering If i can replace my e40d with a zf5 out of a newer f250 with the 5.4. I know I would have to tune off tranny codes and mount a clutch pedal and punch a nice whole in my floor but is this something that I can do easily in a few days. Will my transfer case mount up? I need to get a new driveshaft made but dont want to until I swap transmissions if its even possible. I know many are thinking why not just another e40d well the only thing keeping this thing from perfect is me shifting my own gears.

I have a body lift on my truck so I would have some extra clearance underneath.

A M5OD will bolt right up with the clutch parts from a 4.6 f-150. If you go the ZF rout you will need the flywheel and clutch from the Superduty. Your Transfer case will bolt up to the ZF. The shift linkage might need an adjustment or a tweek or two.

With that setup, you would be eating M5OD's for lunch. A ZF would hold up a LOT better.

Thats what i figured and the price of a zf is a lot less then a new e40d and the clutch setup and everything else I needed I feel would still be less then a new e40d
