SD Trans cooler swap questions.

I just got a good deal on a XC3Z-7A095-BA Super Duty trans cooler and I'm getting things ready to do the cooler swap.

My truck is a 97 4.6L XLT 4X4 Scab with the factory towing package and 3.55 gearing.

My question is this, the SD cooler swap that is written up on this forum uses the XC3Z-7A095-CA cooler, which has about 5 or 6 more plates than the BA version.
From what I've been able to find out, the CA cooler is for the V10 gas engines and the BA is for the 7.3 Diesel.

Since the 7.3 cooler is a little smaller that the V10 cooler, will the 7.3 cooler be OK if I remove the factory aux cooler?
I'd like to remove the original aux cooler since it will make room for an external filter mount, but if I need to keep the original cooler to make up for the smaller SD cooler I'll try to find another location for the filter.

Regarding the filter, it looks like I could plumb it in before the radiator trans cooler. Should I put it there or just put it ahead of the SD cooler?

The filter mount used will take a PH8A/FL1A engine oil filter. Is there a special filter to be used for trans fluid, or can I just use an engine oil filter?
I still have a couple Fram HP1's kicking around my garage that are probably 20 years old still in the boxes. (They used to use them for trans filters on busses where I work. I got a bunch when they replaced the busses that used them)

I am doing this swap because I tow, and it seems that the SD cooler should be better for low speeds since it's up in front of the radiator where the fan can pull air through as opposed to the location of the stock aux cooler where it only gets decent airflow when moving.

I'm getting the hardware together now. Only paid $30 for the cooler, but I'm probably gonna drop more than $100 in AN fittings and braided line......

Any thoughts?
Darrin, what's your opinion?
