06 Navigator shifter question

I just had an issue with my 06 Navi. The shifter wouldn't move from park into reverse. I tried to rock the truck thinking that it might be stuck or something. Didn't work. So I started kicking and stomping on the break pedal and it shifted. I know that there is some type of safety switch that keeps you from shifting into gear without pressing the break. I am assuming that this switch was the problem. Just not sure what or where it is?? Is it the same as the cruise control switch or something else. Also, one other issue is that once it shifted into gear, the P on the shifter stayed lit as well as the D.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Update...I tore into the console and looked at the problem a little closer. I am guessing that there is an issue with the brake safety switch. It is not releasing when the brake is depressed. Do anyone have any info on replacing or repairing this switch??

thanks
