drain and refill capacity
drain and refill capacity
I have a 1998 F150, and i want to drain and replace the automatic tranny filter. How much fluid does it take to fill it back up? I cant find it in the owners manual....thanks in advance.............Don
Pan drop only is 5 quarts, if you drain the torque converter too (highly recommended) it's 14 quarts. Mercon V. Reuse the factory pan gasket, it's better than any aftermarket gasket and is reusable indefinitely. Make sure you know which tranny you have.
I've seen the little drain plug on the TC..
After draining the pan and TC do you just put the TC plug back and fill the transmission up? How do you fill the TC back up..
I know its probably been asked thousands of times.
Run it through the gears and top it off?
Put about 6 quarts in, start it, let it run for a minute. Add a couple more quarts, start it again, check the stick with it running. Add till it's full, then run it through the gears, add till it's full. Drive it about 10 miles, check and top off.
So I have been contemplating the same thing since I just got the truck. So I haven't crawled under yet but plan on an oil change today. SO I just drop the pan, reuse the gasket, and how do I get to the TC drain plug? I would assume that you have to get pretty far in to do it.
