Reluctant to shift out of first

I have a 2000 F150 4x4 with a 5.4 and for the last 3 weeks or so it's been slow to shift out of first gear. It only does it when it's from a dead stop, holds the gear for far too long, then shifts into second. If i'm giving it gas and pushing it to accelerate somewhat rapidly, then it will hold the gear until I let off the gas and allow it to shift. Tranny was flushed and filter was changed about.....2.5 years ago. And probally about 30K ago. The problem is also far more noticeable when the engine is cold. Any help/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh and I'm an idiot and haven't even checked the tranny fluid yet. Been on my list for awhile, but haven't got around to it.

Might be your 1-2 accumulator spring is broken. When mine broke on my '99, it would not shift out of 1st until the motor wound tight, other than that, the trans shifted normally. It's a cheap repair ($10 spring from the dealer), if you're handy w/ tools (must drop the trans pan). I don't know what a trans shop would charge, but the repair should only take them a couple of hours.
