Is it bad to start in 2nd?

When I'm going through a parking lot that has a lot of stop signs I usually start out in 2nd gear so it's not constantly shifting from 1st to 2nd. I've always thought that was better than shifting all the time, but I've also heard that it's harder on your transmission. What's your guys take on it?

It's going to give you a lot of converter slippage - I'd reserve 2nd gear starts for slippery conditions. If you are using very light throttle, I don't think you are hurting anything though.

No, I always use light throttle but I don't really want to risk it so I guess I'll just keep it in Drive. I try and keep it in 1st gear when goin through a parking lot with stop signs, but since it shifts into 2nd gear at 10mph it's kind of hard. And usually as soon as it hits second it's time to stop again.

Thanks GLC!!

If you don't want it shifting, keep it in 1st in parking lots...

I also don't want it screaming. It shifts into 2nd at 10mph and I don't really want to keep it in 1st at 10+.

I'm just picky, it prolly doesn't really matter either way.
