Transmission and Transfercase question

Hey

In my last trip to the desert my reverse gear syncro got broken and something happened to my transfer case chain my question is since im swapping my stock M5OD for a ZF transmission can i swap the stock transfer case for something more heavy duty because im swapping in a lighting engine also what do i need to fit the ZF transmission and can i put the 6 speed ZF

and what do you guys recommend rebuild the transfer case or buy an aftermarket one? and what are my other options for the transmission? i would like to keep it a stick shift

my truck is an 1997 f150 4.6 5speed 4x4 which will get a 5.4 next month

Thanks

If you are fitting a ZF from a Super Duty you can use the NPG 273 from the Super Duty. You will need at the very least a new rear driveshaft. This transfer case does not use a slip yoke. It needs a telescoping driveshaft. You will run into clearance issues with the ZF tranny. Your BW 4406 T-case will bolt up to the ZF transmission so you could rebuilt that.

would a 3'' body lift provide enough clearance to run that big Super Duty manual transmission?

With a body lift it should clear. The shift lever is not set as far back as the M5OD so you may need to cut the floor.
