1992 4x4 engaing problems..help

Hey Guys and Gals!
Im a noob here on this message board, however I am pretty active on cafords.com.
anyways, I just purchased a 1992 Ford XLT 4X4 F-150, 137k miles,.. Fuel injected 351 Windsor engine, 4sp OD automatic, automatic locking front hubs with front diff. BUT I tested out the 4x4 (electronic) and it seems not to work. When I press on the button I can hear something click and it does not go into 4x4 or even 4low. Also, the 4x4 light does not turn on. I pressed the button like 20 times but still no indication that the 4x4 is working.

Any suggestion what it might be?

Thank you,
Calvin

You will probably get a better response in either the Other Powertrain forum or the pre-1997 forum. This isn't a transmission issue.

Easy check and easy fix for under 100. On the back of the transfer case you can unbolt the shift motor and 10 to one it's burnt up. Turning the shaft by way of a wrench can put you in 4x4 manually. If you hear the clicking your controller is prolly in working order.

Also, when you do get it working, the low range is accessible by being in neutral with yer foot on the brake under 3mph *basically stopped*.
