differential bolt-rounded head

1995 2wd f-150 Inside the differential "chunck"/// I am trying to remove an axle so that I can replace the seal at the wheel-end. I used a cheap wrench and missed taking out the 8mm lock bolt which is now rounded. This is located where the two axles meet. I think I'm pretty much jammed up now on getting it removed. My next thought is to weld a socket on the bolt head through the 3/8drive hole in the socket. From there it would likely be some big vice-grips since i cannot get one of my ratchets to fit in the available space with the socket on there. I suppose I could cut the socket as well, so that it is super shallow. I read that it has Lok-tite from the factory. Thoughts and suggestions? I shoulda waited!!!! til i had the right tool in hand! thanks

Thanks for the info everyone! I ended up getting an "Irwin" tools small removal kit at our local NAPA. It goes from 1/4 to 1/2" if I recall. It is like an easy-out socket. Wow what a tool. The little pinion retaining bolt - 5/16' that is lok-tighted from the factory is the one I had probs with. Thanks again for your input.

Sounds like what we described above. Figured some one besides Sears had them. Glad everything worked out.
