would I have to regear

I have a 2001 4.6 s crew f150 and I want to put 35s on it. Will I have to regear or will I be ok for a while?

Did you ever find out what gears you are currently running? If you have 3.73 I think you would be "ok" for a while, if you have 3.55 I would stick with 33" or go ahead and regear when you get 35's.

Open your driver's side door and there will be a white sticker there. Find the word axle and then right under the word axle will be a letter with a number. Ex H9 is the 3.55ls. Find that and post it here and we can tell you what you have. As for running 35's, If i had the 3.73's i would try it and decide from there but if you have 3.55's it's just not really pratical. It won't hurt anything if you do for a little while but i would just wait and get tires and re-gear at the same time.

I have accually been looking at 4.56 gears would those work ok?
Also do I get the gears for the 8.8 or 9.0?
I am guessing the 8.8

Those gears would work but they are 4.10's. I would definatly go with 4.56's because you will gain performance from stock and it will turn those 35's nicely.

You'll definately want to regear.

4.56's would be great with 35's.

I have the 5.4l and 3.73 with 35s. It's not that bad, off road it could be better but it's not bad.

You should try to match the final drive ratio as close to stock as possible. Being too "tall" is never a good idea. Being too "short" will give you better performance but worse gas mileage but is not harmful. I went from stock 29.5" with 3.55 to 33" with 4.10 and that was almost a perfect match to stock. There are many online calculators that can help you select the proper gearing for your tire size. Don't cheap out...do it right.
