No lock up when cold.

Alright, I have a 96 f150 with an E4OD with 160,000 miles. The past few weeks I've noticed the TC doesn't lock up in 3rd gear when the trucks cold, (usually locks between 30-35mph) but once I hit 40-45 it shifts into OD like it always does. After I go a few miles and everything gets warmed up the TC locks up and everything's fine. Anyone know why it's doin this.

It may be normal, im not too familiar with your year but most new vehicles will disable lock up untill the TFT is above a certain value. Keeping it unlocked heats the fluid faster.

Maybe if you havent done it for awhile you should change the juice and filter.

I just changed the fluid and filter last Saturday. I change it once a year. I drained the TC also when I changed it. It's kinda of hard to tell if I screwed something up while changing it or if it's because of it being 20* and below. Because when I changed the fluid it was the last "nice" day we had. Ever since then it's been cold.

It's normal. The TC won't lock till the fluid is up to normal operating temp.

Mine's doing the same thing, but takes 2 to 5 miles before it will lock up. I have a 2002 w/ 5.4. I don't think this is normal.

Mine does it as soon as it warms up. If I let start it up and let it sit for 15 mins in the morning it doesn't do it but if I let it warm up for the usual 5 mins it does it.

this is normal, my truck does it also. it just takes a couple miles for the fluid to heat up to operating temp.

I've noticed that also. At first I thought it was my imagination, but I started watching the tach a little closer. I also think in colder weather it is a little more pronounced.
